Installation

The application consists of only 2 files: Noise.Powerpack.exe and NoiseStatic.dll. The latter contains all Novapoint-related functions and is not dependent on any other dlls. This makes the application independent of Novapoint being installed or not. To run the application as a screen saver, Noise.Powerpack.exe must be copied to c:\Windows\system32 and renamed Noise.Powerpack.scr. This is done by the installation procedure.

The installation procedure is the same wether Novapoint is installed already or not. Novapoint Noise Powerpack will not interrupt any existing Novapoint installations.

For manual installation:

  1. Create a directory for the Powerpack files.
  2. Download the file noise_powerpack_18_30.zip to this directory.
  3. Unpack the zip file.
  4. Delete the zip file.
  5. Edit PowerPackSilentSetupExample.bat and enter directory names.
  6. Run PowerPackSilentSetupExample.bat.
  7. Restart the computer.
On computers with Windows 7 the bat files must be run as Administrator. Right click the file and choose “Run as Administrator”! You will be asked for permission to let the bat file do what it needs. Answer “Yes” to install the screen saver.

For distributed installation from a network directory, edit PowerPackSilentSetup.bat.

Before you use Powerpack, there are some settings to set. This can be done during installation or manually from Novapoint by:

MOUS_ICO Menu: Noise > External calculation > Set directories

or

MOUS_ICO Start Binaries\Novapoint.Powerpack.exe (under the Novapoint directory)

or

MOUS_ICO Start “Display” options to choose screen saver, select “Novapoint Noise Powerpack” and choose “Set options”.

This opens a dialog with the following choices:

Task directory
A network directory used as a base to export tasks and return calculated results. If tasks are to be calculated by more than one PC, this should be a directory on the network, which all PCs can access. All PCs must have set the same directory as Task directory. The application will keep track of which tasks belong where.

Local directory
A local directory used by the application during calculation. For speed, this should be on a physically local disk.

Number of processes to use for calculations Select either a specific number of processors, “All processors”, “All processors-1” etc.

OK
Ends the dialog and the application.

Calculate
Starts calculations. This choice is only available if you have started Novapoint.Powerpack.exe directly, not when you are only expected to adjust settings. Status over the calculations is shown in the dialog.

Stop
Stops the calculations. This choice is only available if you have started Novapoint.Powerpack.exe directly, not when you are only expected to adjust settings.
